Hair Loss Treatments: Your Guide to Hair Loss Treatment Types
In honor of Hair Loss Awareness Month, we have talked about the different types of hair loss and if hair loss can be reversed. Now we’re going to tackle the different kinds of hair loss treatments. If you are experiencing hair loss, there’s no need to fret! There are many different hair loss treatments and one of them is definitely right for you! We are going to go over medicinal, surgical, and natural hair loss treatments.
Minoxidil and Finasteride
The only two drugs approved by the FDA to treat hair loss are Minoxidil and Finasteride. Minoxidil is blood thinning topical solution. You apply it by rubbing it directly onto the scalp in the desired areas of hair growth. According to Web MD, only about 10% to 14% who try minoxidil experience hair growth. Minoxidil treatments are typically multi-step and are designed for use every day, or even twice a day. It is also important to note that Minoxidil is a vasodilator, meaning it widens the blood vessels to deliver more oxygen-rich blood to the hair follicles. This type of hair loss treatment can be dangerous for individuals on certain medications. Be sure to check with your doctor before beginning the use of any product with minoxidil.
Finasteride, or Propecia, is a prescription drug for men, taken daily as a pill. Some men who use this drug notice a slowing of hair loss, and a few even notice new hair growth. However, side effects include hormonal imbalance and an increased risk of prostate cancer. Finasteride may not work as well for men over 60.
Hair Transplant Surgery
While minoxidil and finasteride take a few months to show results, hair transplant surgery is a quicker, but more painful option. Transplant surgery is a way to make the most of the hair that you have left. During this procedure, a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon removes hair from parts of the scalp that have more of it. They will then transplant it to a bald spot. Some people may need more than one treatment to get their desired effect. After transplant surgery, the hair looks better in the meantime, but hereditary hair loss will still happen despite the surgery.
PRP Injections
Another surgical option is PRP injections. According to Healthline, PRP injections are a three-step medical treatment where a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp. There hasn’t been enough research on PRP injections to prove if it is an effective method. However, some believe that it triggers natural hair growth by increasing the blood supply to the hair follicle.
The PRP therapy process is a three-step process. These treatments happen three times every four to six months. This therapy treatment requires maintenance every four to six months. Step one of the processes involves a blood draw. Your blood is then separated into three parts: platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma, and red blood cells. During the third step, your platelet-rich plasma is injected into areas of the scalp that need hair growth. As mentioned before, this is a very new hair loss treatment and there is not a lot of clinical evidence.
Zenagen Revolve Treatment
Lastly, we are going to talk about a more natural (and best in our opinion) hair loss treatment, and that is Zenagen's Revolve treatment. The Revolve System is a natural, botanical shampoo and conditioner-based treatment for thinning hair and hair loss. Unlike minoxidil and finasteride, Revolve targets hair loss by using natural, botanically based ingredients and no chemicals or medications.
Revolve targets hair loss of all kinds. This includes hair loss from chemotherapy, medications, disease, or just the average pattern of baldness caused by genetics. Revolve is even safe for pregnant women and is great for treating postpartum shedding. Another bonus is that, unlike competitors, Revolve is so convenient and is not a multi-step, everyday application. You simply use Revolve in the shower in place of your regular shampoo and conditioner every other day. Leave the treatment on your scalp for 5 full minutes to see results. Revolve also has a high rebuy rate and thousands of 5-star reviews on Amazon. It’s a best-selling product among customers looking for a natural alternative to traditional hair loss therapies and is available for purchase here.
Although we may be biased, one of these treatments is bound to be for you. We always recommend Revolve, especially to those who have tried other hair loss products and had poor results.
